    1. A conversation with a student this week made me think about my early days in Australia, and things that I missed about the UK (apart from family and friends) at that time. Sounds a bit trivial, but I really missed Marks and Spencer!! I missed their trifles, crisps, ready made sandwiches and underwear among other things It became a ritual to go to M&S with my mam every time I went home for a visit. I’d have a bra fitting and mam would stock up on my favourite food!! It’s amazing the things you think about.

      Therefore I’d like to add - comfort food - M&S - shared experiences/ rituals - to the word list

  4. I saw a really nice installation on you tube which is relevant to our project by Miroslaw Balka "On Common ground" (White Cube)

    Old doormats, - what unites these objects are traditional values shared by the former owners of the doormats as well as the years of living in the same neighbourhood and often side by side.

    Ground = understood as a place towards which a person is attached which he/she associates with his or her roots
